LCVR Strategic Plan Policy

Policy Statement

Lowcountry Center for Veterans Research (LCVR) will implement a strategic plan which communicates the organization’s goals and the actions needed to achieve those goals by coordinating and aligning resources and actions with LCVR’s mission.

Background

Strategic planning is an organizational management activity that is used to set priorities, focus energy and resources, strengthen operations, ensure that employees and other stakeholders are working toward common goals, establish agreement around intended outcomes/results, and assess and adjust the organization's direction in response to a changing environment. The purpose of strategic planning is to set overall goals for successful business

operations and to develop a plan to achieve them.

Guidelines

All members of the LCVR Board of Directors will participate in strategic planning activities. LCVR will have a Strategic Planning Committee comprised of members of the LCVR Executive Committee (Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center (RHJ VAMC) Director, RHJ VAMC Chief of Staff, RHJ VAMC Associate Chief of Staff for Research, and LCVR Executive Director). All LCVR Board members will be required to serve on at least one strategic planning subcommittee.

The Strategic Planning Committee will

  • Oversee planning processes that encourage input from all LCVR Board of Directors

  • Develop and recommend to the LCVR Board of Directors performance and quality measures to ensure LCVR accomplishes strategic goals

  • Review the strategic plan on a monthly basis for implementation status

  • Ensure effective communication of strategic plan to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure that LCVR and RHJ VAMC financial, space, capital asset, human resources, and information resources planning processes are integrated with strategic planning processes and outcomes

  • Track and report accomplishments to the LCVR Board of Directors

  • Have the authority to call RHJ VAMC ad hoc members as the need is identified in specific areas of expertise

  • Conduct an annual evaluation of the overall effectiveness of the strategic plan policy, active subcommittees, and the strategic plan document

  • Be responsible for the Annual Strategic Planning Retreat
